This study estimates the charging infrastructure that will be necessary to meet the needs of the electric mobility in a city or in a region in the next years.
Taking into account the specific characteristics of that city or region, the number of EVs and PHEVs circulating in the next future is defined in order to be able to identify the required charging stations for the different segments: sleep&charge, work&charge, shop&charge, coffee&charge. Usually three scenarios are taken into consideration.
After having defined the required charging station, the costs for the public charging infrastructure are estimated. A possible business case for the public charging infrastructure is also investigated and suggested.
The same method already applied for the city of Zurich and the Canton Ticino, has been applied for the Masterplan Stuttgart.
For the implementation of the extensive nationwide fast charging network in Switzerland, the placement of the areas where the charging points should be installed has been identified.
